Light a candle and relax in the bath

There’s nothing more relaxing than soaking in a nice, hot bubble bath, and according to Science Direct, taking a bath can actually help improve your sleep quality. Preparation for a good night’s sleep can begin hours before your bedtime, so to set yourself up for a night of relaxation, take your bath early evening - and make sure that the setup is right!

Low lighting, bubbles or a bath bomb and a good book to read can all make the experience as enjoyable as possible. If you don’t already have one, think about getting a bath tray to rest a drink and a book on, and don’t forget to light some candles for that perfect relaxing atmosphere.

Use a speaker for soothing sounds

While it can be tempting to use your phone around bedtime, it’s best to banish all technology at least an hour before bed. Blue light can trick our senses into thinking it’s the morning,
causing us to feel wide awake—which is the last thing you want before bedtime! Instead, create a playlist of gentle and soothing sounds and connect it to your speaker
to create a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Pop a candle or diffuser nearby and relax in the soothing sounds and delicious scents.

A comfortable mattress is a must

Your home—and particularly your bedroom-- should be tailored as a perfect space to sleep, and this starts with a good quality mattress. Finding a mattress that’s both comfortable and supportive will allow both your body and mind to rest and rejuvenate overnight.

Whether your preference is a firm mattress or a soft mattress, or perhaps a memory foam mattress, focus on comfort, and make sure you test out a new mattress before buying it. For an extra layer of comfort that will improve your quality of sleep, consider buying a mattress topper.

Plump up your pillows

Anyone who has ever slept on an uncomfortable pillow knows just how important a pillow is for your sleep quality. Not only does the right pillow feel so much more comfortable, but it also helps to align the spine correctly, reduces back and neck pain and offers support to your whole body throughout your sleep. To help you wind down at the end of the day, consider using a pillow spray in soothing scents like lavender or jasmine. Simply spritz on your pillow before bed to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. You can also use a sleep mask to stop any light from waking you up too early in the morning.

Bundle up with blankets

The temperature of your room has a significant impact on the quality of your sleep, so it pays to regulate the temperature with fans and heaters. Another great way to stay warm during chillier weather is with a cosy blanket, and a blanket also adds a nice decorative element to your bedroom.

Darken your room with blackout blinds and curtains

If you’re a light sleeper, then you’re probably used to being woken up by the smallest noise. But light from outside can also have an impact on your body’s sleep cycle,
causing you to wake up earlier than you need to—particularly during the summer months when the sun rises earlier in the day.
To counteract this, invest in some blackout blinds and curtains which will help to keep your room dark and peaceful, no matter the time of day.

3

Chill out with low lighting

Since bright lights can disrupt our sleep/wake cycle, avoid using your main lights for an hour or two before bedtime, and instead chill out with low lighting from a bedside lamp. Not only do bedside lamps produce less light, but they’re also easy to switch off from the comfort of your own bed.
